Company Description

We are proudly representing our public sector client based in Newcastle City Centre for their search for a International Relations Officer. They now have an immediate requirement to recruit for a temporary assignment to start as soon as possible till July 2019. This position is full time Monday- Friday.

Job Specification

The Role

  • To work with the Director of External Relations and Head of External Relations to determine and disseminate best practice in international strategies and to implement those strategies to ensure the client utilises all opportunities for and from these activities. To liaise with other key support staff in the Faculty and in other Faculties where appropriate.
  • To identify and research partnership opportunities and new potential partners and assist the Director of External Relations and the Head of External Relations in developing appropriate strategies to address these and assist with their implementation and documentation (including maintaining of agreements).
  • To proactively identify and secure engagement and internationalisation opportunities of relevance to the client’s strategy and the monitoring of expenditure on these opportunities against the agreed business plan, advising the Head of External Relations.  This will include co-leading the Business flagship event, ‘Gain a Global Advantage’, and leading on global case competitions and the global internship scheme as well as manage international curricular opportunities, exchange and international study tours. To act as lead contact for GEO, corporates and key contacts from the client’s partner institutions and embed employability across all mobility programmes in conjunction with the Careers Service.
  • To support the Head of External Relations with the production of external funding proposals to secure funding for travel bursaries by advising on costings for travel, consumables and other eligible costs.
  • To optimise the utilisation of central information systems, to inform and support the decision-making process.  To act as Secretary to and produce reports for the client’s External Relations Committee. This will include maintaining statistical information relating to the international activities and providing relevant management information
  • To plan, organise and undertake international visits
  • To line manage the External Relations Coordinator and the External Relations Intern
  • To work pro-actively with the Marketing and Communications team to maximise visibility and awareness of all international opportunities and activities as a motivator for employability and skills development
  • To act as a source of information, knowledge and advice, participating in international opportunities, providing high quality market information and relevant pastoral care.
  • To manage and develop relations and administrative frameworks with international partner institutions and corporate organisations to ensure smooth progress and implementation of the client Strategy in the context.
  • To actively review activities related to the international dimension of the clients l strategy and produce reports and proposals for consideration on an annual basis.
  • To organise and be responsible for the delivery of a programme of appropriate events to maximise the recruitment to the Global Experience Opportunities programme including the clients annual case competitions, Erasmus and Non-EU exchanges. work pro-actively with the Alumni Relations Manager and the Engagement Support Coordinator to identify and secure international internship opportunities across.

The Person

  • A degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Understanding of the complexities of global education marketing
  • Knowledge of the wide range of issues relevant to developing international partnerships
  • MS office
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills together with good numerical and IT skills
  • The ability to work in a digital environment and understand the uses of / make use of available technology to enhance work performance where appropriate
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – listening, negotiating and influencing
  • The ability to write with clarity and outstanding accuracy for a range of different markets, including those for whom English is not the first languag
  • Ability to plan and co-ordinate high-quality events and activities 
  • A high level of intercultural sensitivity
