Company Description

We are proudly representing our public sector client based in Darlington for their search for an Local Motion Travel Advisor. They now have an immediate requirement to recruit for a temporary assignment to start as soon as possible until March 2020. 

Job Specification

The Role

  • To provide information, advice and incentives directly to individuals to help them voluntarily make more sustainable travel choices
  • To engage with members of the public and encourage them to make more sustainable travel choices e.g. public transport, walking and cycling; at households across the Tees Valley
  • To contact households in a specified target area and engage residents in conversations about their current travel habits; identify sustainable travel alternatives for the household to consider; promote the benefits of those alternatives; and provide appropriate information and advice
  • Accurately record household contact data, including conversation details and resources requested by households
  • To ensure that all resources requested and queries raised by households are delivered and responded to in a timely manner
  • To assist with providing personalised travel information to employees at businesses, job seekers, students and the general public across the Tees Valley
  • Assist with community or school events, mail-outs and other promotional work to support the marketing of sustainable transport, delivering key messages and motivation for changing travel behaviour
  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of children for whom you have responsibility, or with whom you come into contact, to include adhering to all specified procedures
  • Ensure that you work in line with all the Council’s policies and procedures and ensure that you are aware of your obligations under these

The Person

  • Educated to NVQ level 3 or equivalent) in relevant subject
  • Experience of working with the general public in a customer service role, either face to face or via telephone
  • Experience of engaging with members of the public/customers or clients and directing to other services
  • Experience of and knowledge of promoting initiatives, programmes and events
  • Experience of organising activities or events involving the general public
  • Understanding of Government transport policy and guidance, particularly in relation to encouraging walking, cycling and using public transport
  • Experience and understanding of communicating information to the general public
  • To be a good listener and be able to respond with appropriate information/advice
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to sustainable transport ethos
