Company Description

We are proudly representing our public sector client based in Newcastle city centre for their search for an HR Assistant. They now have an immediate requirement to recruit for a temporary assignment to start as soon as possible for at least 4 months. The hours are full time based on a 37.5 hour week, Monday- Friday.

Job Specification

The Role

  • Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the service through a collaborative team approach, providing assistance to colleagues as appropriate
  • Maintenance of corporate databases and systems.
  • Deal with all general HR queries when received, taking responsibility for ensuring a suitable response is provided to more complex queries where further advice has been sought.
  • Generate routine reports from core systems as required.
  • Contribute to ongoing business initiatives in support of continuous improvement.
  • Provide assistance to, and cover for, other areas of the Human Resources Directorate as required.
  • Provision of advice and information to stakeholders on routine aspects of HR processes and procedures relating to recruitment under the guidance of more experienced members of the team.
  • Assist the Administrator (Recruitment) with the preparation and administration of the full recruitment and selection cycle (job advertising; selection committees; referencing; employment contracts etc).
  • Support the Administrator (Recruitment) with processing pre-employment checks (DBS; Research Passport; Honorary Contract; Medical Clearance etc).
  • Responsibility for the administration of the application process for Guests and Visiting appointments.
  • Creation of new staff records within SAP.
  • Process all leaver notifications including retirements and resignations.
  • Manage the probation process for all staff categories.
  • Support the Administrator (People Solutions) with all contract/payroll changes including maintenance of employee SAP records as appropriate.

The Person

  • Educated to GCSE level (in English and Maths) Grades A-C, or equivalent, or demonstrable experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work both independently and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team based on demands of the Service
  • Demonstrable experience of working quickly and accurately to deadlines
  • Good level of IT skills, particularly MS Office, and an awareness of social media channels
  • Ability to prioritise own work efficiently in order to deal with conflicting priorities
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of maintaining high levels of discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Previous experience of working in a very busy customer orientated environment
